 SERVICES

Assessment and Therapy SLP services are offered for children or adults with difficulties experienced in the areas of communication, speech, language, voice, stuttering and swallowing. Currently assessment and therapy/treatment is offered through home visits or school visits only, except for the Hanen “It Takes Two to Talk” Early Language Intervention programme which involves both home visits and clinic sessions.

 

The Speech Wave is currently offering the Hanen "It Takes Two to Talk" Early Language Intervention Programme in Lennox Head, NSW. This is an evidenced-based therapy course designed for parents of children with significant language delays. The course aims to instil parents with SLP communication strategies to maximise language development through parent-child interaction opportunities in play and daily routines. This is a 10 week course involving 8 group teaching sessions and 4 individual video taping / video feedback sessions (including video baseline/assessment session).  For more information on this specific therapy programme contact The Speech Wave. REFERRALS

Adults can self refer for an initial assessment or treatment (with a current previous assessment). Adult referrals are also accepted from carers or health professionals with the individuals' permission.

Paediatric referrals are accepted directly from parents / legal guardians of a child or via a primary health professional (General Practitioner, Health Nurse, Paediatrician) or Teacher, with parent/caregiver approval.

Referral can be in the form of a letter, an email or a phone call. Please see the Contact Us section for contact information. ​

 

FEE SCHEDULE

Initial assessment report  :                                                 $500 (Full speech and language assessment)

Initial assessment report (Speech/Articulation only):         $300  (Speech/Articulation assessment only)

Initial assessment report (adult dysphagia only):               $300  (Swallow assessment only)

Assessment or Therapy Session individual  (Adult/Child): $190* per session (60 mins)

Assessment or Therapy Session individual  (Adult/Child): $100 per session (30 mins)

Therapy session group ( 2-4 children) :                              $75 per session per individual (30 mins)

Hanen "IT TAKES 2 TO TALK"               :                           $2400 (25 hours minimum plus materials).

(Early Language Intervention Therapy course - 10 weeks incl. 8 group sessions and 4 home visits)

 

* A $ 3.99 admin fee per hour is added if funding is through an organisation.
​Initial consultations are 1.5 hours unless arranged otherwise.

Payment must be made via electronic funds transfer (EFT).

Home visit surcharge : Lennox Head (free); There is a travel fee at the hourly rate for other locations. Please contact The Speech Wave for more information on home visit surcharges for specific locations.




The Participant or Clients must give the Provider a minimum of 72 hours’ notice if the Participant/Client cannot make a scheduled appointment to avoid cancellation charges.  Cancellations within 48 -72 hours of the scheduled appointment incur a charge of 50% of the total appointment fee**. Less than 48 hours notice incurs a 100% fee**. Exceptions for 48 hours notice accepted are:- Sudden illness, family bereavement or special family circumstance (waiving of this fee to be determined by the Director of The Speech Wave). Please note that missed or forgotten appointments are also considered cancellations without notice. The Speech Wave will not send a reminder of the appointment if a regular weekly session time & day are pre-arranged. **The appointment fee also includes any travel time set aside and pre-arranged for the appointment to be able to take place.


FUNDING AND INSURANCE OPTIONS

Government funding can currently be obtained for SLP services for some children with special needs through the NDIS. The Speech Wave is a registered NDIS Provider. Private medical insurance may cover SLP fees (see your insurance provider). The Speech Wave is a registered Medicare Provider. Medicare offers some compensation for up to 5 SLP treatment sessions per calendar year for individuals with a chronic (significant and ongoing) condition if a need has been identified and a referral made by your primary health physician through an Enhanced Primary Care Plan (EPC). Certain services can be bulk billed. Please contact The Speech Wave for more information.
